EDWARDS Tom

Tom and Mary Edwards arrived in Ongerup on Boxing Day 1932, and small baby Pam. They moved into a residence where previously once stood a blacksmith's forge under a spreading salmon gum tree where Athol Jones shod horses from 1/3 to 2/- a hoof, according to size.-Tom ran an attractive garage business on this site for many years.
Mary endeared herself to all, mechanics who worked in her husband's garage, school teachers, as well as anyone who had nowhere else to stay were boarded by Mary.
She was a marvelous cook and supplied meals and cups of tea for many many people as there was no hotel or boarding house in Ongerup.
Mary's Cornish pasties and mulberry pies were well known.

 MARY EDWARDS         #2

While in Ongerup, Mary was a member of the CWA and Methodist Church as well as the Ongerup Choir.

When the garage business was sold in 1968, Tom and Mary moved to Bremer Bay where Tom became caretaker of the caravan park, their home was always open to old and new friends and during the summer holidays Ongerup folk were welcomed for a cuppa and a chat about “old times".

The couple lived at Bremer Bay for a few years after Tom retired before making the move to Mandurah as Mary felt she would like to live closer to "civilisation" after so many years spent in the country. Mary had always enjoyed a game of cards and in Mandurah she continued this pastime at the Senior Citizens' Club.
